Atherstone Taekwondo Club held a grading on the 13th of September, resulting in first rate passes and promotions to 34 students from our club!
The grading examiner was Master Donnelly 7th Dan Black belt and senior Instructor and Referee for the TAGB.
Over 50 percent of the students who entered received Grade A passes!! This was attributed to the hard work all the club has done recently in its twice weekly lessons.
Many beginners from the club were taking their first gradings, and these people along with the Best male at the grading Kymon Lown and Best female Charlotte Horsley, deserve special mention. Well done!!
Well done to all who entered the TAGB 2008 Midlands Championships at Kettering, it was a great success! In total 21 people entered the tournament with 15 trophies won!!!!! A fantastic result which following on from our English Championships back in March, surely places us amongst the best fighting martial arts clubs in the area!!! Also a big THANKYOU to all the parents who supported us, it is so much better with genuine support. Go to the gallery to see the photos!!!!
Hi everyone, a quick note on the latest news for our Taekwondo club. This month we had a superb Seminar with Master Donnelly, along with the grading before it. 14 out of 21 people who graded received A passes- not bad when all of them except for one person had only had 8 weeks since their last grading! Well done to you all, we won’t be grading again until late summer -keep logging on for exact dates! I hope you gained from the experience of Master Donnelly instruction, I always do!!
Upcoming we will be turning our attention to Sparring and Championships! Get into sparring mode by coming down on Saturday sessions, we will be practicing sparring routines, controlled contact, kicking speed, hands, padwork and of cource points!!
The Midlands Championships are up coming and we would like a lot of our members to use this Championships as an opportunity to compete, without the pressure of the English/British Championships.
Talking of the British Championships, this year is the 25th anniversary of the TAGB - the Silver Jubilee, and to mark this special super seminar are to be held ( see events) PLUS a Black Belt team area Championships. In order to be picked for this team or even to get extra sparring practice you must go to the training days at Willenhall WV13 2NS a 10.00 am start. Each session will cost £5.00, this is open to Black belts, red Belts and maybe Blue Belts.!!!
Junior Black belts need to think about the September/October pre grading to take their first Star gradings-Danny,Alex and Becky.
Please continue with your training and above all enjoy it. Use it or lose it!!
Regards,
Simon.
Welcome to the September/October 2008 newletter.
What a busy month we have had! Our grading with Master Donnelly for Atherstone was a great success, ALL students passed with good grades and over fifty percent passed with A passes!! We must be doing something right!! Many students took advantage of the Saturday lessons, making it become part of their natural weekly schedule. I think that the regular participants to this Saturday lesson can be spotted during their training on Wednesday nights- they look better, fitter, and they don’t forget as much as others who don’t attend!
Very few mistakes were made during this grading, this is a credit to your continued hard work.
Please go to the Photo gallery to see the pictures from the grading, including pictures of the male and female grading trophy winners-Kymon and Charlotte. Particular well done to you two!!
The next major event which will take place on the 12th October is the British Championships, which will be held at Nottingham Arena, Bolero Square, The lace Market, Nottingham NG1 1LA. Start time 9.30 a.m
We will be looking to emulate or improve upon our recent successes earlier this year at The English Championships and The Midlands Championships.
If you didn’t go to the last set of Championships, be aware of the next event at Nottingham, as it will be a special celebration of 25 years of the TAGB, with special sparring and Optional fancy dress Tag sparring events! Also, some of the founders of the TAGB will be putting on demo’s!
Please support your club with Seminar’s and Championships as much as possible, it helps to create a club identity and friendship amongst students and instructors. Please come along to the Saturday sessions, we are doing Sparring, pad work, patterns and self defence work with fake bottles, knives and sticks! I think with all the knife crime around, especially amongst teenage boys, that these lessons could be useful. So come along-remember: Use it or lose it!
A special thankyou to Martin, Alex and Becky for helping out at the grading.
Keep training!
Simon Loveland 4th Dan

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2008!
Well done to everyone who has made it back to training on these Cold Winter nights, the first few lessons are always a bit harder! This year is already promising to be a busy year, we have already organised lots of things!
Our first grading of the year is to be on Wednesday the 5th March at our own club at 7 o clock. Master Donnelly will be taking this grading as usual, so all the beginners, and other students up to Blue Belt should take this grading, so get training!!
Following that we have the English Championships at Nottingham on the 30th March, this is the 25th year of our Taekwondo association -the TAGB( Taekwondo Association of Great Britain). So all the Competitions that take place will be special!
A Midlands Champiionship may also be held soon, but as yet we don’t have a date.
Master Donnelly himself, will be instructing at our very special Seminar, to be held at the Kingsbury school on the 3rd of May! To be instructed and taught by a true World master is a unique situation, Master Donnelly can be truly inspiring as well as very enthusiastic! After each section of the Seminar he will be taking the 2nd Coloured belt grading of the year, and at this grading ALL coloured belts can grade. It is essential that ALL higher grades ( including Black Stripes and Black Belts), ensure that they are available for this seminar-it is not to be missed!!!!!!!
We will soon be announcing the itinery for the day of the Seminar, with further details. The whole event is a joint effort between the three TAGB Taekwondo clubs of Atherstone, Tamworth and Kingsbury. We will be offering a special price for the Seminar/Grading which will only be available to Atherstone members-so don’t tell anyone from the other clubs! More details to follow soon.
The recent Saturday session of January have not been well attended and for this we are disappointed. Please try and support these sessions, designed to encourage and improve your Taekwondo skills. If you only come to Wednesday nights lessons you are missing out on sparring, techniques, self defence, pad work, etc. Saturday lessons will start back on 23rd February, at 10. o clock till 11 o clock. Remember there is a grading in a couple of weeks!
Please continue to use the website and give Simon ideas for future lessons. See you Saturday and Wednesday.
Simon and Tracey.
